ASP assignment1

We discussed 3 topics in 23,April.

Firstly, the topic we talked about is what is good discussion and what is bad discussion.
We should do a lot of things in good discussion, for example to choose a leader who manages discussion (like asking others and summarizing idea of the group, which help us understand well) and a recorder and to express other information or reasons follow our opinion when we tell others our opinion.

Secondly, we talked about that Japan should start teaching English from the beginning of elementary school every day.
There are many disagreement of this opinion because it is important to master mother tongue before we study other languages and there are no good teacher who can teach English well in elementary schools. But I agree with this opinion because linguists said that earlier we study foreign languages, better we study them and we should be accustomed to speak, write, listen to foreign languages before we start to study them hard in junior high school.

Finally, we discussed the age of adult should be 18 in Japan.
I remember there is no good reason to change or keep the age of adult in Japan. Deciding the age of adult is difficult because there is no standard to distinguish between children and adults.

comments for video of discussion

During watching the videos, I found good discussion are made by the attitudes of participators. In bad discussion, they didn't pay attention to discussion however their attitudes are. On the contrary, in good discussion, participator intend on talking, and they respond opinion of others with gesture or opinion. So, we have to consider our own attitude when we take part in the group work.
But, it's not easy to pay attention by oneself. For instance, a shy person think it difficult to answer voluntarily. To go discussion well, group leader should ask other members and summarize their opinion. Summarizing it can make it understood clearly.

ARW Blogging Assignment 2

The thesis statement I've chosen for Essay 1 is the following:
Motivating themselves can help students succeed in high-level study because they can cheer up each other and brush up a lot on their skills and having their own sense of rivalry can improve their way of studying or thinking.

How do "good" college teachers present information?

According to Meiland, a "good" college teacher presents information in the following way. A good college teacher presents information which is what currently believed and spends much time talking about its basis because students are required a different and higher type of understanding and they must perform another sort of intellectual work on the material, namely critical examination and evaluation after they understood the basis.

I'm agree with him. If teacher don't present information and talk about its basis, students can't master important skills of critical examination and evaluation which instructors expect you to master because most of them might have never been told to find the reason which make us trust in what currently believed before.
